What is the difference between a fear and a phobia?

"A fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain or harm.
A phobia is an extreme or irrational fear of, or aversion to something."

Fear is a normal and healthy part of life. In fact, fear plays an important role in keeping us from entering harmful situations and helping us decide when to get out of situations that are not necessarily the best. Under normal circumstances, fear can be managed through reason and logic. It does not take over our lives or cause us to become irrational.
Whilst fear is useful to keep you safe, phobias can have a major negative impact on the sufferers’ life. All too often, fears stop people from enjoying their life and realising their full potential. Phobias can rule people’s lives, holding them back: it’s a bit like driving a sport car with the handbrake on. Being an irrational emotion, it is very difficult to just talk yourself out of it consciously. More often than not, sufferers know that their phobias don’t make sense. A phobia twists the normal fear response into something that is persistent and difficult or impossible to control.

How does hypnotherapy work for phobias?
Phobias are irrational, and everyone who has one knows it, but just can't control the reaction.  It is a response that we have learned at a young age, and learned incorrectly.  There is usually a very specific pattern of events that have created this phobia, and hypnotherapy is the perfect tool to delve inside and "close the loop", thus replacing the irrational with the rational.

Phobias are normally "learned" at a very young age, we are born with only two fears, the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises, everything else we learn.  As we are learning about the outside world our brains utilises the "Freeze, Fight or Flight" process to teach us who to react.  We see something new, we freeze, our brain analyses the situation, then works out whether is it safe "fight" or dangerous "flight", then we unfreeze.  What happens sometimes though is that process gets interrupted, something happens to distract us while we are in the freeze state, normally something that will startle us, and we come out of the process without ever "unfreezing."  When this happens, the freeze respose becomes our learnt response, and with it the feeling of fear and / or panic.

Fortunately, hypnotherapy is incredibly good at undoing this, and generally only takes one or two sessions.

What should I expect at a hypnotherapy for phobia session?
We start with a chat. It’s how all the best relationships start!

Phobias are usually very easy to remedy and are usually done in just 2 sessions. Some deep rooted ones may require more so additional sessions can be booked depending on the individual persons need. At the beginning of each session we will discuss your feelings and progress. You will feel a massive improvement after just the first session! The follow up sessions will drill down into more precise feelings.
